The more cameras, better? Find out if it's true or not.

The fashions are inherent to mobile photography as they are to so many aspects of a smartphone and one of the most recent and striking is to put triple rear camera, although we are seeing four and even more in terminals this year. Although the really striking beyond the optics are the current and future designs of the rear cameras, which apparently will not cease to surprise us.

In honeycomb, in "traffic light", excelling ... The options are diverse in order to overcome this current challenge of fitting both a component in such a small space (as explained in OnePlus) and also to differentiate. We review what we can see in the market and what leaks show us in the face of future designs for multiple rear cameras.
One of the manufacturers that has pushed this fashion of the multiple rear camera more is Huawei, with a Huawei P20 Pro that in 2018 boasted triple camera followed by a Huawei P30 Pro that does it with four this year. The design was familiar to us, since that third camera followed the vertical scheme for the double camera that we had seen in many smartphones before, although the Huawei Mate 20 Pro changed it by opting for a kind of central tile including the flash and remaining as a dice.

The fourth camera, starring the integration of a Time of Flight or ToF sensor (another of the most recent fashions) has not forced the manufacturer to change at the moment, since in the Huawei P30 Pro we see a design similar to that of its predecessor. But yes, apparently the next Mate 30 Pro will introduce changes in the design of the back to stay in a circular shape, according to the last leaked poster.
Nokia is a manufacturer with solera and it seems that in its new stage with HMD it still has some of that crazy innovation and design spirit. The last sample is the Nokia 9 Pureview, a device that confirmed a design that leaks made us very difficult to believe.

It is a hexagon in which five cameras are fitted, the flash and the depth sensor, so that each one is inserted in one of the vertices of the hexagon and also in the center of it in a double rhombus scheme. Very striking both in shape and number, but unlike many other manufacturers there is no bulge and all this is at the height of the back cover, without protruding and with some subtlety and sobriety within what fits.

In addition to this mobile, the brand's plans could include launching another with a peculiar rear. This is a possible Nokia 7.2 whose alleged photos circulated recently on the network and showed a rear module also circular like that rumored Mate 30 Pro and very similar to the Motorola, as we will see now.

There are two manufacturers whose rear designs bring more expectation for this year by assuming more drastic changes, and coincidentally despite being nemesis they have apparently thought of very similar solutions. We talk about everything that is rumored about the iPhone 11 and what has been leaked and confirmed from the Pixel 4: that outstanding tile-shaped module that reminds a bit of a glass ceramic for its glass finish on black.

In the case of Google it was the company itself that confirmed it last June with a tweet, although without specifying which lenses will integrate that striking module (apparently they are two cameras and a flash). Something similar is said about the next Apple smartphones, with hundreds of renders created by users based on leaks that speak of a triangle arrangement inside this outstanding tile, adding the wide angle to its telephoto lens and its standard lens.

We will see how this evolves. Some of the leaks are repeated and could be confirmed in months, thus seeing a greater diversity in the rear parts and putting into current debate the question of whether the aesthetics and design of these cameras really matter to the end user, given that in the end what really A priority on many occasions is that the photographic scheme gives the versatility and photographic quality that it promises.

Available already iOS 11 in its eighth update in three months: iOS 11.2.1 already available

The latest version of Apple's operating system has received so many patches that it starts to look like my amended childhood pants.

Trouble in paradise?

Apple released on Wednesday the eighth update for iOS 11 after last week it was released a bug that endangered products using HomeKit.

iOS 11.2.1, already available for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, can be downloaded from the device itself although it is always advisable to backup the information beforehand. Apple said last week that these days it would release this update.

Not counting the iOS 11 version itself, Apple has released eight updates due to several security and performance issues, although not all related to this issue-iOS 11.2, for example, was released with the premise of adding new emojis.

However, iOS 11 could be the version with the most updates to date: iOS 11.0.1, iOS 11.0.2, iOS 11.0.3, iOS 11.1, iOS 11.1.1, iOS 11.1.2, iOS 11.2 and the newly released of the iOS 11.2.1 oven. More those that are missing; Apple usually stops updating until it reaches X.3 or X.4.

On Wednesday also, Apple released tvOS 11.2.1, an update that is coupled to iOS 11.2.1 by bringing a security patch related to the vulnerability located in HomeKit, since the streaming box also has compatibility with household objects.

What we know about the iPhone of 2018: screen and launch versions

In the midst of this rumor, we must put a little clarity: how many versions will there be? Which ones will have OLED screen? How will your cameras be?

The iPhone X takes just over a month in the market and despite this the atmosphere of rumors already speaks about its replacement for next year as Apple's latest phone.

As time goes by, the iPhone X becomes the new phone to be supplanted by Apple, so the creative and engineering machinery at Apple is already advancing at full steam to have a better phone ready by the fall of 2018 and, According to rumors, the iPhone X paints a clear picture of how the next Apple phones will be for the coming year.

The rumors about the expected phone come from different fronts, some more credible than others and, as time goes by, the information takes shape reinforcing the most credible information and discarding the less reliable reports, then we collect the most important.

Apple will launch three phones, two with OLED and one with LCD

According to Ming-Chi Kuo, there will be a model of 6.5 inches and 5.8 inches with OLED screen, but also one of 6.1 inches with LCD. The three iPhone will be without bezels.

Apple will put Face ID and better batteries in iPhones 2018

Reports suggest that the three iPhones of 2018 will have a longer battery in the form of L, in addition to the integration of facial recognition.

iPhone 'cheap' in 2018 will have metal casing

An alleged 6.1-inch LCD screen would return to the metal of the iPhone 7 and leave behind the glass of the iPhone X, a detail that would make them cheaper, but certainly not necessarily affordable.

2018 iPhones will have better wireless signals

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says that the 2018 iPhones will have a different metal frame to improve the transmission of wireless signals.

The 2018 iPhone will not have a modified camera

Ming-Chi Kuo says that Apple will keep the same rear camera design so as not to complicate the production of the next cell phones.

The iPhone would have 3D functions in the rear camera

Bloomberg says Apple is researching a technology to place third-dimensional functions on an iPhone that would launch in 2019.

Apple will launch the iPhone SE 2 in June

The Chinese newspaper 'The Economic Daily News' says that the new generation of the 4-inch cell would cost around US $ 450 and would be manufactured in India.

Apple works with Intel for 5G modems in upcoming iPhone

Apple engineers would be more engaged in working with Intel and would be limiting what they do with Qualcomm.

iPhone X will be in stock at Apple stores on November 3rd

Despite continued reports of constrained supply of the iPhone X ahead of its November 3rd launch, Apple today confirmed that its retail stores will have the device in stock on day one for walk-in customers. Well, it’ll be in stock for the first few people in line, anyway. Apple’s press release says that anyone hoping to walk into an Apple Store and walk out with an iPhone X next Friday is “encouraged to arrive early.” That’s right: the lines of hopeful iPhone buyers camping out overnight are about to make a big comeback after what many perceived to be soft demand for the iPhone 8’s arrival last month.
It’s nice to see that Apple is already confirming that its retail stores will have at least some iPhone X stock to go around. In previous years, certain new iPhone models have completely sold out from preorders and been unavailable for walk-in buyers on release day. The iPhone 7 Plus (and all jet black iPhones) faced this initial shortage in 2016.

The iPhone X goes up for preorder at 12:01AM PT (3:01AM ET) this Friday, October 27th from Apple and authorized resellers. At Apple’s stores, the device will officially go on sale at 8:00AM local time on the 3rd.

Shown! IPhone users believe themselves to be better than Android users

¡Demostrado! Los usuarios de iPhone se creen mejores que los de Android
Generally, people who buy an iPhone do it for two reasons: 1) because they do not want to eat their head and want something that works and 2) by social status. Many people believe that having an iPhone gives them a higher social status, and that "Android is for the poor". Well that seems to stop being a saying to be a reality, and is that a survey has shown that iPhone users are more likely to negatively judge another person if they have an Android smartphone.

The iPhone 6s Plus Exceeds the Galaxy S7 Edge in a Speed Test

El iPhone 6s Plus le da un repaso al Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge en un test de velocidad.

The new Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge does not reach the market officially until later this week, but who has already been done with a unit and are starting to appear the first comparative video, as you taught them this morning of a test resistance to iPhone 6s Plus. This time we bring you another video, this time a speed test that pits the iPhone 6s Plus with S7 Edge Galaxy, the Nexus 6P and Moto X Pure Edition.

However, although the video there are four devices in total, iPadizate we will focus only on the iPhone 6s Plus and the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, the new flagship presented by the South Korean company a few days ago only. So we do not entertain us and we will see how the Galaxy S7 Edge fights back with respect to speed versus iPhone 6s Plus, which has lasted about six months on the market. The iPhone 6s Plus gives a review of the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge in a speed test.

Which of the two smartphone has a faster response?

As has been seen in some comparisons speed test the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge has nothing to deal with the iPhone 6s Plus, even though the mobile Apple has already half a year on the market and that has half RAM, 2GB 4GB versus new smartphone from Samsung.

In the video that accompanies this news a comparative response speed is different actions of the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, iPhone 6s Plus, the Moto X Pure Edition and the Nexus 6P, these three last released in 2015. The four devices are factory reset, running without a SIM card and you only have installed additional applications that appear in the test (Instagram, Netflix or Temple Run, among others), which is basically open and close applications and games to see how long it takes.

The iPhone 6s Plus outperforms its competitors in this video, finishing the test in 1 minute and 42 seconds, while the Galaxy S7 Edge was behind with 18 seconds apart. Watching this video it is clear how Apple takes full advantage of all the hardware that is part of the iPhone but not the cutting edge and working together that makes the software, in this case iOS in September.

Without going any further, the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge comes with a 4GB RAM, while the iPhone 6s Plus has 2GB of RAM. We must also not forget that both devices use different processors and operating systems.

Apple patent introduces simultaneous photo capture with multiple cameras

05-iphone-6s-jhila-farzaneh

The latest patent filed by Apple details the idea of using two cameras to simultaneously capture two different fields of view in the same direction. By taking two photos with different focal lengths, a device like a phone could have an effective optical zoom without an actual moving lens.

The patent, first picked up by by Patently Apple, shows diagrams of two cameras side by side, the first with a larger field of view and the second with a smaller field of view that is a subset of the larger one, with their visual axes aligned. The device can then store the two photo data structures separately.

ApplePatentPictures
Illustrations from Apple's patent. The left figure shows the two cameras capturing two fields of view. The right figure shows the two images both displayed on the same screen.
With these two data structures, the device can display both photos, switch between them or create an intermediate photo, enhancing the quality of the larger field of view picture with data from the smaller field of view.

For an example of this technology being used, Apple described taking video of a baseball game. With this design, someone could take equal-quality zoomed in and wide angle video at the same time and use that in the coverage of the game. With one device, a video operator could focus close up on a batter swinging while also focusing on the wider outfield and crowd reaction.

To ensure simultaneous image capture, Apple included a portion in the patent to index and compare the times at which the photos are captured in each of the cameras.

Apple's patent isn't just for phones, it also includes computers, tablets, cameras and gaming consoles. This technology could very well become a part of many different future Apple products.

There is no mention of using the side-by-side cameras for 3D within the patent, and the slight offset of the two images raises the question of how well an intermediate composition of the two photos would actually look. There are no details about how the photo data would be analyzed and combined.

As always, patent applications aren't proof that we'll actually see the technology in a finished product, but it does show us some of the things Apple is considering for its future camera systems.

Apple has bought the motion capture technology behind Star Wars

Apple is the new owner of Faceshift, the motion capture technology that Disney subsidiary Lucasfilm used to help bring alien characters to life in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Although the acquisition went through in August this year and was rumoured at the time, Apple has only now confirmed the news. In a statement to TechCrunch,, the company said that "Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans".

Faceshift, based on technologies originally developed at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in Switzerland, works by analysing data captured by a depth camera similar to Microsoft's Kinect. The system uses an infrared dot grid to detect objects and motion in three dimensions, and movement data from the camera, including head position, gaze direction and the location of arbitrary marker points on the face, is then applied to a 3D model either in real time or, for greater accuracy, in post-processing.

Despite Faceshift Studio's recent high-profile use in the world of film, it was originally developed for use in 3D games, allowing pre-generated NPCs and even players' own avatars to have accurate facial expressions.

Faceshift live motion capture technology
Although Faceshift's website still includes documentation and support for existing customers who own the Faceshift Studio motion capture software and Faceshift plugins for Maya, MotionBuilder and Unity, Faceshift Studio is no longer available to buy, and the plugins have been removed from their respective asset stores.

According to Faceshift's Unity page, "this package has been deprecated from the Asset Store. This means that new purchases of the package are not allowed and that only users who already purchased or downloaded the package before it was deprecated, are allowed to download it". While this will doubtless disappoint potential customers who'd like to get their hands on the animation technology, it's par for the course when Apple acquires a company.

Amazon Prime Music's top challenge? Getting Prime members to notice it (Q&A)

When it comes to downloads and sales of music, Amazon is the big kid on the block. The e-commerce titan will need to use its elbows, though, if it hopes to succeed in the increasingly competitive niche of music streaming.

Amazon Prime Music debuted in the US more than a year ago, came to the UK over the summer and landed in Germany this month. The ad-free streaming service, included in the $99 Prime annual subscription best known for two-day, free shipping, is certainly cheaper than its rivals. Apple Music, Spotify and Google Play Music offer ad-free streaming for $10 a month.

Like Apple, Amazon was late to streaming for a company with so much know-how in music sales. But don't tell that to Steve Boom.

"We got in at the right time," said Boom, vice president of digital music at Seattle-based Amazon. "Obviously we've been in the business for over 15 years. We have a first-row seat at exactly what people's music purchasing behaviors had been."

That's just one of many factors that Boom lists as helpful for Amazon in the scrum of music streaming.
Here is an edited excerpt of CNET's conversation with Amazon's music chief earlier this month in London:
Q: You've said every streaming service has a very focused rationale. What is Prime Music's?
Boom: When we decided to go into streaming, we spent a lot of time doing research with customers on what it is that they want. And not surprisingly, the first thing everybody wants is access to a lot of great music. But we also found that while they want access to a lot of great music, a substantial majority of people are not willing to pay £10 per month, £120 a year [in the UK, or $10 per month, $120 per year in the US].

The problem with free services, as we talked to customers, is that there are a lot of things that get in your way of listening to music. There are a lot of ads. Maybe more importantly than the ads, the mobile phone is the No. 1 listening device for digital music, and the free streaming services do not give you full access on your phone and do not even let you take it offline, which is super important because the plans are expensive.

With Prime Music we wanted to address the customer who loves music, wants access to a lot of music, and probably not the customer who used to spend [hundreds of pounds or dollars] a year on music and needs access to every single thing. But they want to enjoy music without all the interruptions. And so that's what Prime Music is.

Many streaming services offer a free trial as a gateway to premium membership. Is that something you'd consider?
Boom: We never rule anything out from the start. As a company we're very focused on listening to our customers. People had been asking us to put music into Amazon Prime for quite some time. There were a number of people who said "finally" or "I've been waiting for this. Thank you, Amazon." And it's still really early days.

It has already established itself in three months here in the UK, in 16, 17 months now in the US, as one of the top premium streaming services. Right now we are really comfortable with that strategy.

Why did it take you so long to enter the streaming market, when selling music gave you a head start?
Boom: You're right, we've been in digital music and we've been on a kind of a path of evolution for Amazon from being a retailer of music to being a music service. We can quibble about whether it was early, late or the perfect time. We came in with a service that's different, and that's probably the most important thing. The rapid adoption by our Prime members says it was the right move...and yet we're still just scratching the surface. People ask me, what's your biggest challenge? Sometimes it's actually letting Prime members know that this exists.

So how do you do that?
Boom: We have this amazing marketing channel called Amazon, and you know, there is actually a quite good symbiotic relationship between video and music in this regard. What we have found is that, as people realize that they have digital-media benefits in addition to their e-commerce benefits -- once they get over that hurdle -- they're much more likely to then consume the other service. If they try music first, they're more likely to try video, and vice versa. So it's actually super helpful for us to have multiple services that allow us to cross-market.

Apple is really the only company that rivals you in terms of offering streaming and downloads as part of the same service. Is Apple Music your biggest foe?
Boom: We're just very different. One of the really interesting things about all of the other services is when they market a new release, it looks like how we used to market a new release. They market it to people using their music service, which is great, because it gets people that listen to their music. But Amazon has a much broader platform.

We have ... globally over 200 million customers coming to Amazon sites. Many of them are not using music from Amazon. And so what we're doing is actually marketing that release to everybody on Amazon, and that's way different.

You come to the home page, Amazon, it's an e-commerce site. You might be going to shop for a new tablet, you might be going to shop for laundry detergent, garden furniture or a new record, videos, and you're going to see this promotion. That's pretty powerful.

Has Prime Music strengthened the Prime package to the extent that people are joining Prime just because of it?
Boom: Our primary focus with Prime Music right now is not becoming a Prime member, but more on staying a Prime member. Like I said, we're going after the type of customer that wants access to lots of music and great functionality, but doesn't necessarily want to spend a ton of money on music every year.

What we're really focused on is getting them to say wow, Prime just got more valuable. When it comes time for my renewal, I'm that much more likely to. That's been our primary focus, and it's working. Every time we add a new benefit to Prime we do see that jump in our members where they tend to stay more engaged in our service.

Is there any chance Prime's annual fee, which is $99 in the US and £79 in the UK, will change?
Boom: There's always a possibility of that someday. Sometimes shipping costs go up, and we have seen that in the past. I think we've raised prices once in the history of buying. That really is not a lot.

Even when we did raise the price, the rate of growth of Prime really didn't slow and the retention rate stayed pretty much at the same level. ... If the price goes up, it's for good reason, not because we just whimsically want to raise the price. We wouldn't be adding these types of services if people weren't using them and loving them.

The route used iPhones before returning to the market

When Caleb Gonsalves decided to buy a new iPhone a few months ago, I did not go to the Apple Store. Instead, he went to the website to find reseller Gazelle used an iPhone 6, which saved money and pain to wait another year to overcome his contract with the telephone.

"The idea that a phone could sell [an iPhone 5S] ... and give a little money to buy a new phone that was discontinued ... was incredible," said Gonsalves, 27 executive of a technology startup based in Boston. So I ended up changing its iPhone 5S 32GB for $ 216 and used the money to partially pay a 64GB iPhone 6 used in Gazelle, which cost $ 401. At that time, a new iPhone in June would have cost US $ 749.Gonsalves is not the only one who sells and buys used Internet phones.

As the US mobile phone market away from traditional contracts to two years, more consumers switch quick phone while looking to save money. Resellers phone as Gazelle benefit from this trend by offering affordable alternatives used smartphones. 6S Since the iPhone hit the market in late September, Gazelle have changed some 100,000 iPhones, exchange figures considered normal for generations "S," the company said. Apple tends to make major redesigns every two years, opting for more subtle changes in the intervening year, the "S" models. Most business Gazelle is the iPhone, but also buys and sells Android devices. But it is not the only company in the sector. eBay and other uSell also buy and sell used mobile phones.Gazelle, based in Boston, began offering consumers a place to sell their used electronic devices. Last year opened an online store to sell these devices and since then has sold 50,000 iPhones.

"As manufacturers have removed subsidies telephone, many people have realized that buying a new iPhone costs US $ 650, not $ 200," said Sarah Welch, head of marketing at Gazelle. "There has been a sharp increase in demand for used phones in good condition".

To see what happens with the phones before they reach new buyers, CNET visited Gazelle installation in Louisville, Kentucky.

To sell a smartphone, consumers will Gazelle page and describe the state of the device in terms of "broken", "good" or "excellent condition" after which they receive an estimate of their value. The company then sends a prepaid box to the consumer, who has 30 days to send in the phone to Louisville. This period allows the seller to set a high price before the new iPhone is announced, but gives them time to buy another before selling.
